ENVIRONMENTALISM:

| FROM JACQUES COUSTEAU:
The situation of the planet is very alarming. I dont see any
possibility to change people. . . to such an extent and quickly enough to save what should
be saved. But thats when
I use my reason. When I use my heart, when I use my faith .
. . then I become optimistic. I say, 'Well, things are not always logical.
Something will happen. A situation will arise that will awaken people, and we will
suddenly understand that we have to join forces.' (qtd. in Graham, Contemporary Environmentalists page 15). |

How can we address an issue as large as environmentalism with all its associated categories? It is an issue too broad and too all-encompassing for us to approach as single individuals. There is a need to attack these problems with a full assault from all quarters. Ecologists cannot do it. Governments cannot do it. Chemists cannot do it. Oceanographers cannot do it. Businesses cannot do it. None of us can do it alone. It requires a team effort. |
| As one voice alone on the planet, we may not be able to make much difference. As a strong, united front, however, we have a much greater chance of success. |
In this work I want to stress the importance of approaching
environmental concerns as a group. The problems we confront are global ones and, as
such, must be addressed by people from numerous fields. Cooperation, logic, and
concern for the inhabitants of the entire planet must be key factors in our response to
these issues. I have divided the problems into various areas to make them easier to
access, beginning with the descriptions of different types of systems. From there
you may access various related categories including a section on well-known role models
who have taken the lead in this movement. I hope this site will be
informative and that it will provide some motivation for those of us who have been
lacksadaisical about these issues.
